An Iranian refugee who has lived in British Columbia since 1995 but did not receive permanent resident status until last year has had his challenge to the constitutionality of the province's foreign buyers' tax rejected by the B.C. Supreme Court.

    Well, true, but you would think 30 years would be long enough to get your residency/citizenship. It’s sort of his own fault.

      He applied twice (1997 and 2015) and was denied before being accepted in 2020.

      The article doesn’t explain why he was denied

        He didn’t even purchase it as himself but rather

        Bakhtiari made the purchase through his company, Technocorp Venture Capital Inc., of which he is the sole shareholder

        So it also sounds like an active attempt to dodge taxes
