“no fucking reason” is because you spent a long ass day at your shitty job being abused by either your boss or shitty customers, did groceries, came home, cleaned some, paid your bills, cooked food, took a quick shower then collapsed on the bed.

Your sleeping time is the only time that you are free to spend how you like, so that’s what you do.

It also could be due to depression, caused by many factors including capitalism and the current state of the world

But wait a minute you are arguing in favor of sleep. Which is fine, but Look at the meme up there. It indicates that some people use their free time at night to stay awake instead of sleeping.

Sorry, maybe I was not being clear. I’m pointing out that people’s “sleep time” is the only time where they are free to do what they want, so they spend the time doing what they want instead of sleeping. I’m not arguing that one is better than the other.

Makes sense. Wanting to sleep is basically choosing unconsciousness over consciousness. Even when tired I’d rather be conscious.

I open lemmy while exactly doing that and also thinking about it and this is the first post I see. I think this is a sign and therefore I came to the conclusion that I should go sleep at last.

I stare at Lemmy until my eyes burn & I fall asleep, so we can indeed do both, stay awake until we fall asleep. I mean that’s pretty much what everyone does unless they’re strung-out on stimulants or clinically insomniac

i have a new trick: i convince myself, if i go sleep early quickly, i can get up at 2am and play games and watch movies until morning light. for some mysterious reason actually getting up at 2am then only works 1 in 3 times, but somehow i still feel good about it. can recommend.

I’ve heard that it’s your brain trying to get itself enough dopamine to justify living another day. If your entire existence is only misery, you tend to… “tap out earlier”.

I started turning my phone screen off occasionally and then turning it back on while laying in bed. Sometimes it gets me past the not feeling like falling asleep part and I end up knocking right out instead of dragging it out for hours becuase I don’t feel tired. Also prevents me from deciding “I’m going to fall asleep now” and turning off the phone because that never works and I end up more awake than when I was staring at the phone. Same feeling as nodding off to a TV show

I don’t understand why I can’t sleep at night, although I feel so exhausted after playing Balatro for 8 hours straight.

Even if I get in to bed I won’t sleep. Might as well be doing something fun in the meantime and stay up

I picked up bedtime reading again over the last couple years, and it’s a nice intersection of being in bed & relaxing & entertaining.
