At least hardly anyone on Lemmy believes the Fediverse was invented by Eugen Rochko in 2022 as a reaction upon Elon Musk’s announcement to buy Twitter.
Yeah, we wanted to make sure he was cool with how we approached getting posts from users, for example (our method worked, but was different). We had a lot of really cool things lined up, but he was more interested in finances. I didn’t understand that until the nonprofit status for Mastodon arrived.

Plus if I’m being honest, he’s a dick. My company had to have several meetings with him re: app development, and he just lectured us.
