Hi everyone,

I have a 1968 convertible beetle that will start an idle for about two minutes while it makes a god-awful screeching sound before it dies. This seems to be a relatively new sound as last year it would start and at least idle before dying on acceleration.

Does anyone have any advice on what could be causing the screeching or why it would idle but not take acceleration? I’ve played with the auto choke a little bit, but it hasn’t made a difference as far as I can tell. The carburetor was also cleaned and rebuilt. The only other thing I can think of is, maybe there’s something caught in the fuel screen, old or the fuel pump is bad.
