“We can’t stop elderly people from voting because someone might try to stop black people from voting.” Reminds me of an argument I heard a Republican make: “If we don’t stop gay people from marrying, what’s to stop someone from marrying a dog, or a car?”
You know what I think people over 60 should do? Retire. Sleep in. Watch the weather channel. Indulge in hobbies. Babysit their grandchildren. Play shuffleboard or canasta or cribbage or Quake or whatever old people play with their friends. And sometimes answer “Dad, what should I do here?” You grew up, you learned, you served your time, now it’s time to rest and occasionally advise.
Instead, we’ve got a civilization built by cryptkeepers who know nothing but performative greed who have done nothing but erode the possibility of any kind of retirement. We’ve got a generation of septogenarians right now who won’t retire because they have no concept of themselves as conscious beings without their work, and their personalities are fucking poison. A generation of young people are cutting contact with their parents and grandparents as soon as practicable because of how hateful and terrible the television has made said geezers, so they’re worthless in their roles of teaching and advising.
We need to kill off the politically elderly so that we can fix the elderly at large.
