The new Xperia 1 VI is finally here, and Sony is changing things this time around. In a surprising shift in product strategy, the new Xperia 1 VI is...
I really like my tall boi mark V so I’m a bit disappointed they’re moving away from the 21:9 aspect ratio.
Edit: Not that it is utilized at all. They’re after all a Japanese company. Implementing really cool things with no clue as to why they did it or why anyone would be excited about it is kind of their thing.
It would be so cool to be able to snap photos in this format but no.
Very aware of that. It’s what it does for every other aspect ratio after all (hence the reduction in resolution when shooting in 16:9). The benefit would be ease of composition, so I don’t have to try and keep a mental picture of 21:9 when taking a photo. It’s such an easy thing to do (and apparently they had already done the work).

I can take 21:9 pics on the Xperia 10 III, did they remove that?
It seems so. The widest I can go is 16:9.
You can always crop them yourself…
Which is, I assume, what was happening in the older phones, not much sense in making a custom aspect ratio sensor just for one phone size.
