I have been a photographer my entire life from about age 14 until now and have been very fortunate to see many extraordinary moments in time. This image is the first time I have ever seen anything like it. This barred owl was roosting in a tree and fell asleep it rested its chin on an adjacent branch and continued sleeping.

Parenting must be going exhausting for this poor owl!

After watching the nest cam this season for the Great Horned Owls, I’ve gotten to see how much work is involved taking care of everyone. Neither parent gets much of a chance to sleep and so much can go wrong. I’m sure this nap has been well earned!

It’s so cute how owls lie on their bellies to sleep. This is the first time I’ve seen an adult do it.

I have a some more good sleepy owl pics coming this week, so don’t miss them! Probably should have posted that one first since it tells you how they manage not to fall off, but now you’ll have to check back if you don’t already know!

Truly all parents understand the bone dead exhaustion a baby brings.

Did NOT know birds could rest like that. I always picture them with their eyes closed and with one leg up. Thanks for sharing!
