      I believe it.

Buying a duplex and each getting one side seems like a good relationship compromise to me.

This is so perfect. Like after all these years someone decided to overanalyze Goldilocks.

Depictions of couples sharing a bed especially on TV for example is a relatively recent phenomenon. It was considered polite to provide separate beds

Old TV shows made separate beds a thing for appeals to protestant morality. Prior to that separate beds was a rich people thing. Communal sleeping had been the long standing norm. Commoners didn’t have the space/money typical for multiple beds or even multiple sleeping quarters to make separate sleeping possible. https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20240111-sleep-the-lost-ancient-practise-of-sharing-a-bed

It also appealed to Catholics who couldn’t use birth control and therefor sometimes remained separated well into their marriage unless they were trying for children.

This book was written in 1998, so I guess it was very common for dads to only get weekends for custody. But, as a divorced dad with a 50-50 arrangement with the mom, I still find the premise of this book offensive.
