AI: Scientists from Columbia University have discovered that the brain plays an important role in controlling the immune system. In a study in mice, they found that the brain can detect inflammation and modulate the immune response, boosting or suppressing it as needed. This discovery could lead to the development of new treatments for immune-related diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis and inflammatory bowel disease. In addition, it may help create new approaches to treat acute inflammatory conditions, such as severe immune reactions due to viral infections.
I sure could use those new treatments. Perhaps we’ll see them in some twenty years or so.

I was partially disabled from a crash that bent me backwards and fractured several spinous processes but I had a more serious fracture on C1 and the base of my skull. I’ve wondered if I could have damaged my brain stem in some way that causes my issues. My cognitive function tested fine, but of course there is no way to test for brain stem damage or treat it. I’m very sensitive to inflammation worsening the pain. I guess it shows just how little we know and how much longer the scientific age of discovery will last.
