Yeah wow it’s almost like there’s legitimate contexts for power structures.
There’s no excuse for solitary confinement, where that means a featureless room as psychological torture… but there’s absolutely some motherfuckers who need to be away from anyone else. Stick a TV in there with the psychopathic mass murderer and call it good until he can behave with genpop.
And sometimes there’s Nazis. Hitler is not a fictional character. Occasionally, you get Hitler. The only effective resistance to that kind of problem is centralized hierarchical military force, because like it or not, hierarchies get shit done. Not always good shit! But sometimes, they’re what you require, in order for everyone you love to not die at the hands of another hierarchy doing bad shit on purpose.
It is buck-wild seeing people insist nobody should ever have that kind of power… when they’d presumably oppose any form of gun control. Proper leftists are big on telling people to arm themselves, and leftist forums will outright ban people for saying that maybe guns cause more problems than they solve. So. You don’t want an ostensibly rules-based power structure to have the ability to execute someone, after a year of trials, and like a decade of appeals, and probably multiple governors petitioned for clemency. But blowing someone’s head off interpersonally, spur-of-the-moment, that’s super fucking important to protect?
