I soaked some tofu slices in salt water over night, this actually firms them up a bit and gives it a salty flavor. I made home made hummus and ate on ezekiel bread with lettuce and canned tomato with jalapenos. I added a little balsamic too because why not.
salt brine those veggies too. that’s the etymology of salad.
Ezekiel Bread is one of those things i’ve heard of, but never seen in person. Looks fantastic for a little midday lunch.
It’s kept in freezer sections at the grocery store since it goes off quick otherwise.
So does it just taste like a salty sponge? I love tofu but on its own it really has no flavor.
I mean does queso fresco or fresh cheese have any flavor either? That is really how I think about it. When it is brined it gets a nice texture and reminds me of fresh cheese. The flavor comes from the hummus which was nicely spiced and the veggies and the tofu adds just a little body and salty fresh cheese like bite
Depending on the cheese yes, yes it does have flavor. But that does sound like a tasty sando. God now I want to make one.
