Azure, the hosting platform owned by MS, was experiencing a major outage which took down quite a few sites.

Yep, MC auth is tied to Xbox Live Services, which is run on Azure

Yeah, saw something after I left the comment. It was Minecraft per se that was down. It was the x box authorization/login system. Even bigger!
So that’s why it took bundles 4 years , they took down the entirety of Microsoft’s servers
