I loved it. No issues with the cliffhanger or it being a two-parter except for the wait time. Fantastic use of the medium fantastic story, great pacing etc.

Technically and design wise I think it improves on the first in basically every way, it’s difficult to compare the story though since the first was much more self contained (if such a thing is possible in a multiverse movie lol)

I know this is going against the grain here, but I felt it was way too bloated and referential. The cliffhanger was just insult to injury.

That said, the parts that were good, were fantastic, I just wish they weren’t buried in quippy nonsense

Yeah I agree they sort of built a HUGE world with lots of story lines, but I have a feeling that combined with the next part it will be really awesome!

I hope so, I really enjoyed the first one, so sitting through 2h20m of setup just to not get an ending was a bit of a slap in the face. Especially since it was really just starting to get going

      Quippy nonsense

Guardians of the Galaxy was the only film to popularise that, and to make it funny.

Every other Marvel film followed suit, and it just felt cheaper and cheaper everytime

Some of the stylistic art choices were breathtaking. Truly one of the most visually stunning animated films to come out in my lifetime. I really appreciate that they aren’t afraid to experiment with pretty unique plot directions (being intentionally vague to avoid spoilers since the movie is still new). Also, I noticed that the soundtrack was full of some fun tracks that really differentiate it from a typical superhero film. It made me realize how bored I’ve gotten by the typical fare we get from a superhero movie. I enjoy most Marvel movies enough, but this movie wasn’t afraid to go to new places and break new ground. And I suppose to be fair, that’s the upside to animation over live action. All these thoughts could probably apply to the first Spiderverse movie too, but this movie felt like it took it all a step further in a good way.

The cliffhanger ending and that its a twoparter were deeply unsatisfying to me

    but otherwise agreed

Yeah that kind of came out of nowhere since they never marketed like that. But after sitting there for what felt like the full 2 hours and they’re opening new plot points I kind of figured it was heading towards a cliffhanger. Not too mad though, it’s well written enough that I’m glad they’re talking their time instead of trying to cut it into one movie.

I feel like I figured by the time they made it to the future world that Miguel was from that they were not going to resolve the Spot plotline, so I was fine with a cliff hanger.

The opening with Gwen was incredible. I have minor quibbles about where it ends as a Part One, but beyond that I really enjoyed it.

I took my daughters to go see it and we all loved it. I was a bit shocked that it’s a two-parter but at the same time I’m glad they went that route. So far the Spider-Verse movies are my favorite Spider-Man movies.

Can’t wait to watch it next week. Just saw apparently the 3rd one is coming out in less than a year which is crazy since we waited like 5 for this sequel.

I would pay to see a re-imagined Kill Bill with new artistic choices. (Tbf, I paid to see the first Kill Bill trilogy, so my point makes no sense)

I don’t think the original was planned to have a sequel? Just prepare for this one very much being the setup for a next movie. It was really good though!

I just watched the original for the first time after seeing the sequel a couple days ago. There is an end credit scene for the first movie that 100% sets up the sequel (spoiler: it shows Miguel and the computer chick setting up the first intentional interdimensional jump.)

Oh man did I have a weird reaction to this movie. I felt sad leaving the screen just because my time in the world was over. It was such a beautifully made film, every universe in it’s own animation style and they were all stunning. I figured out by about halfway the pace of the movie meant a lot of this was going to be resolved in Pt.3, so the cliffhanger wasn’t a surprise to me as such, honestly I enjoyed going in to more depth with the characters and continuing to do so with the next one.
