The thought cloud vs speech bubble metaphor hadn’t been invented yet!

“No, sir, I regret to inform you, you forgot the extra $10 for Act of True insurance this month, we cannot help you.”
I’m just gonna say it. The more I read about this True guy, the less I like him.
Sure, he did the Lord’s work when it came to manspreading or masking during a pandemic, and a lot of the other comics are at least a little relatable, but this…?
Some people wanted to see more problematic behaviour from Mr True so I’m trying to fulfil that wish lol trust that the next one will be justified though
None of his violent actions are really justified. Even his pro-union, anti-racist assaults are arguably counter-productive.
I think that’s why he’s drawn with a buffoonish appearance. It’s funny to laugh at the crazy guy going berzerk and committing acts of cartoon violence. The best humor has a tiny bit of truth: wouldn’t it be great to see annoying people get their comeuppance? But I don’t think it’s hypocritical to laugh at these cartoons while disavowing real-world violence.
Of course. The purpose of the Everett True comic is doling out cathartic, over-the-top justice to assholes who deserve it. My problem with the comic is not his methods but his bizarrely broad choice of targets.
Failing to clarify how long you as a shopkeep will be gone for does not an asshole make, let alone an asshole to be considered in the same breath as a union-buster.
Hmm good point… I guess I see him less as a deliverer of justice, and more of an expression of the human Id. I don’t really feel it to be cathartic, other than to leave me thinking: at least someone else finds that sort of thing annoying.
I like that this is so old that the convention of thought bubbles in comics hadn’t been fully established. And he had to add a label to make sure the reader understood.
Edit: oops, someone beat me to it
Holy shit, how fucking unhinged. This is getting saved.
Edit: I like the two guys who show up and press themselves against the glass. I had a friend in highschool that I’d do dumb shit like that with. I would have been the one in the grey shirt, my friend would have been the one in the green shirt.
