I’ve been thinking lately about how consciousness comes about in a human being, and possibly where it is located, relative to that being.

So my first line of thinking is your personality and emotions must be based on chemical reactions, at least to some extent. This is because hormones and drugs can and will change who you are perceived to be. Your actions and emotions can and will change. This also happens as you grow older, or if you undergo an accident, hit your head in the wrong way, etc.

However my next line of questioning which I’m not sure about is how does this link to you, the observer. The one that pilots the body so to speak.

According to murphy212, any emotions you perceive should be celebrated as you can observe them. They are proof that ‘you’ are alive.

I can’t be sure that’s true, because your emotions and personality are susceptible to change, but the only that that is ever-present and unchangeable is the actual you, the observer. The one that technically can’t change anything about the machine it pilots. The emotions and personality around you are just your environment, and I theorise that in the future you would be able to change this environment, where by switching bodies or by altering your environment yourself. Therefore they can’t be relied upon that you are alive.

I intend in no way to state any of this as fact, I want to hear what other people think about this, any theories people have to how the observer comes to be, how they/I fit into everything.
