Flickr, Instagram, 500px, Unsplash and BeReal are ok photo sharing platforms
But, they are walled gardens, aren’t open source and don’t federate
@[email protected] is in the perfect place, at the right time, to be able to disrupt this status quo
We don’t have investors, all we have is people, and together we can fix this
The fediverse is a revolution, empowering the people, and reclaiming the digital landscape from the walled gardens
No more settling, it’s our time now ✨

@[email protected] Flickr is not in the same category as Instagram. It has publicly available APIs and feeds, and can be accessed without using an official slot-machine-style zuckerpump app (indeed, its official app leaves much to be desired). The engagement-farming age has passed Flickr by.

@[email protected] @[email protected] There will be later this month!
We do have a iOS TestFlight beta, https://pixelfed.org/mobile-apps
@[email protected] @[email protected] any plans to update the app with dark mode? Ios18 compatibility, double tap to like. So far it just seems extremely broken.
@[email protected] @[email protected] Yes, new build due out later this week with many fixes.
@[email protected] @[email protected] great I look forward to it.
@[email protected] @[email protected] did it happen?
@[email protected] @[email protected] In the process right of this right now!
@[email protected] @[email protected] I love @[email protected]. You’re doing such a great job! Keep up the good work @[email protected]
@[email protected] @[email protected] I’ve been using Pixelfed since I heard of it at least a year ago (maybe more?). I’ve loved it.
@[email protected] @[email protected] I love to hear that, and trust me, it will only get better!!
@[email protected] @[email protected] I haven’t been disappointed yet! 😁
@[email protected] @[email protected] Just came across pixelfed and it’s so cool. Unfortunately, the IOS beta is full. Any update when more spots will open up? I really want to try it.
@[email protected] @[email protected] trying to understand what makes pixelfed different from Mastodon (as a user, not the underlying tech). If I get the pixelfed app but I only follow people on Mastodon, won’t I just see a Twitter-like feed?
@[email protected] @[email protected] Do you have a resource for me I can use when touting the Fediverse and it’s apps that would help answer questions like “who pays for it all?”, “How sustainable is it”, “how secure is it?”, “who has access to my stuff?”
Some of these questions might seem silly, like the last one, but these are the questions that come up from people I’m trying to bring on board.@[email protected] @[email protected] BeReal is a good photo sharing platform: press X to doubt
That’s exactly why I love using PixelFed: it doesn’t see you as the product. We all together create this wonderful platform, and at least I don’t have to deal with this tracker abomination.
@[email protected] if any of those services started federating, but remained closed source, would that change your opinion?
I ask because I’m working on something that is closed source, but will begin beta testing federation next week 😊

I love the platform, but can’t upload RAW images, its the file size limit issue I think.
