Where I am from, ordering a medium gets you a sideways glance, and anything above that gets you bodily tossed out of any self-respecting household or establishment.
Seems like a lot of people are ill informed, medium is the minimum at which the fat inside a lot of cuts will render properly.
You think that’s bad? My mother-in-law takes it congratulations, then drowns it in A1. She also thinks Pepsi is appropriate hydration. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her drink just a glass of water. If there’s even the slightest hint of spiciness in anything, it’s completely inedible.
Don’t get me wrong. I love her to death, but she has questionable taste.
As for me, I’m a medium rare type, but I’m known to order mine rare from time to time when she’s out eating with us. Just to bring some balance to the table.

Cows give a lot for us. Goddamn I want some stake tho.
To be fair, I know at least one person (my dad) who eats steak well done because his stomach gets upset for anything other. So he has a legitimate reason. Personally, AI is my go-to to to salvage well steak. It doesn’t fix the steak obviously, but at least now I won’t throw it out and can eat it.
