Long time Reddit lurker, first time poster.

I am a pretty basic redditor. never even heard of the 3rd party apps until the whole API thing happened. but i followed the news and was seriously triggered by how the admins acted towards the users and the mods who worked voluntarily for reddit. i feel like i cannot in good faith stay with such a corporation, and i wholeheartedly support the communities migrating here.

where i’m from there was also a similar incidence, where one of the largest forum experienced a massive exodus because of 3rd party app issues. it turned out to be a huge success for the new forum. so it can be done - but it does require solidarity and perhaps more importantly functionality.

so, hang in there ;)

edit: i meant basic not based LOL. sorry :(

Same here, only that I am/was a content creator instead of a lurker. Never heard of the apps, but after reading some articles about how the CEO acted, I decided to leave reddit and nuke my content.

I would be lying if I said that it was an easy decision, as most of the stuff I posted were game guides, and removing those basically punishes the users, but I’m not going to let that guy use my literal years of unpaid volunteer work for his personal gain anymore. The less clicks reddit gets, the better - and to achieve that, the interesting / desireable content has to go so that fewer people have an incentive to visit that site in the first place.

PS: welcome to the party, fellow (ex)redditor ;)

Hi! If you want to do a search of top Lemmy instances (like how we used to append “Reddit” to search terms on Google and what not), a user named Benjamin Pryor made a great search tool here:

    https://fedi-search.com

I saved the favicon to my favorites bar and have been using it like a search button.

Also, if theres a sub on Reddit that you just really want to keep tabs on, there’s an instance called lemmit.online. They have a bot that will pull content over that you can subscribe to it as a Lemmy community. Details on how to request a sub so the bot will pull content over are here:

Lastly, are you on Android or iOS? You can search for an Android app called Jerboa on the Google Play store to browse Lemmy and there’s an iOS app called Mlem in the Apple app store.

    Have fun!

It’s already better! you just have to go find communities (subreddits) you’re interested in and subscribe, the guide I linked will tell you how.
