    Sega was broke.

    They were an arcade giant that made one (1) good and successful home machine, and then loaded it with silly add-ons. They were bleeding money the same way as Atari and 3DO. Meanwhile: devs hated them. Retailers hated them. Fans were tired of their shit. So when the Dreamcast was a genuinely great machine, and its many first-party games were consistently excellent, it simply did not matter. Costs exceeded revenue and they pulled the chute.
