The way he just blew off the 50/50 split criticism was pretty gross. Basing it off of Youtube’s bad-relative-to-the-rest-of-the-market 45/55 split, and then making it worse is not great, especially when coming from someone who makes YouTube content for a living.

Absolutely hilarious to compare the cost of hosting any video from anyone to a small selection of presumably handpicked pngs. Video is astronomically more expensive before even getting into the fact the successful videos subsidize the cost of hosting the petabytes of unsuccessful ones.

And then he takes even more!

there was no comparison between the cost of hosting. it was simply used as a baseline relative to market norms. your insistent on there being malicious actions taken is so odd

        1. You use something as a baseline if you think they’re comparable. The cost of running a picture platform and a video platform are very different and would not justify a comparable split, much less a less favorable split. The split is unjustified by underlying platform costs and therefore greedy.

your insistent on there being malicious actions taken is so odd

        1. What are you even trying to say? It’s odd to write a single comment saying that a YouTuber has an app with a poor revenue split? You’re a clown

Why do you care? People do a lot of stupid and wrong things, you don’t have to care or share these things. See my example: I read about this backround image app or whatever is this, I thought “yeah, it’s stupid and I don’t care” and moved on with my life. Never thought about this again until you posted this here. There are a lot more important things to be angry about. Ignore the unnecessary. This guy makes nicely edited reviews, that’s all, forget the extra bullshit around that. Your life will be better.

I mostly agree with you, but “eh, who cares?” isn’t the moral high ground you’re trying to portray it as. I guess good for you for not raising your blood pressure over this stuff, but there are genuine reasons for criticizing the capitalist consumerism these minor celebrities push on their followers. Even if mkbhd’s product in this case is virtual, it’s part of a culture of unsustainable overconsumption and wealth hoarding. It’s fine for you not to care, but that’s not a more enlightened position, it’s just apathy.

Is this that though? Isn’t MKBHD just a youtube personality? I mean, you can live well from youtube if you do good quality stuff, but is he considered a “rich person”. If it would be zuck or elon or warren buffet, I would see your point, but I don’t see a reviewer as someone from a “higher class”, he is basically just a specialized journalist, who is looking for more ways to convert some of his fame to money, because youtube still doesn’t pay enough to him.

Do you also hate Linus because he constantly advertises his underwear, which is exactly the same as one you can get in any shop but for double price. It’s also a “scam” if you think about this way. I don’t know why there is this huge outcry for this as it happened a million times before, and I’m sure it will happen in the future.

You will loose your mind when you will learn about the girl who sold her used bathwater…
