To be fair, you can advocate for a group you aren’t a part of. I advocate for LGBTQIA rights and I’m none of those.

That’s not an inherent red flag.

They’re a Political Action Committee for the Democrat party. I wish a person could dig deeper than that, but it’s a PAC. Sometimes you can derive more info by reading about a PAC’s founder but this time It appears to just be some diehard neoliberal.

No advocacy group against First Past The Post voting? Isn’t the biggest concern with Jill stein running is that she is “going to steal votes from the democrats”? Attack the problem at its source, the FPTP voting system.

When we get to use a more representative voting system, people would be free to vote for Jill stein; secure in the knowledge that their vote would still be cast against the republicans if she didn’t win.

Don’t the democrats want to beat the Republicans in any way they can? Why is the DNC saying no to these extra votes? Don’t democrats believe in democracy? Who could possibly say no to more democracy?

Democrats have no interest in democracy or anything that weakens their corporate power, like rcv/star/democratic voting methods.

I don’t think that’s true of all Democrats. Have there not been progressives pushing for alternative voting methods?

Almost entirely signal boosted as proof of a carrot that both will most likely never arrive, and most likely won’t change anything even if it did arrive. There’s a large difference between individuals pushing for something and them actually managing to get them passed at a scale that matters.

okay but it’s been passed in plenty of your states and that hasn’t been without democrat party support

you don’t just change the system overnight - change like that can take a lifetime, and it starts with signalling to move the overton window

Very few states, actually, and it passed in Alaska in a Republican state. Overall, it has weak momentum.

How do you signal to “move the overton window?” Prayer?

If only there was some kind of smaller election before the general election where we get to vote on who represents the Democratic party…

the overton window aka “the window of discourse” is literally about talking, and making things more acceptable by their existence in the public consciousness

the more people TALK about alternative voting mechanisms, the more likely it is for some change to occur… 1 person can’t just up and change the system overnight, but by “signalling” as you’ve dismissively called it, it makes it more likely that other people talk about it and that makes it more likely that it becomes policy

How does “signaling” translate to policy? The majority of Americans want abortion codified, legal weed, single payer healthcare, increased gun protection, and more. Why do you think these haven’t passed?

it’s entirely possible that this is true - the point is to sow discord and dissent rather than electing specific candidates… they just want everyone to hate everyone else and everything. they want yall fighting amongst yourselves

But contrary to the claim being made, also you can refuse funding as a candidate. You don’t have to be supported by opaque super PACs.
