    Wait a second. That casts the whole thing in a different light. They’re now obligated to either stop distributing the thing in any form, or else open-source the entire thing whether they want to or not. Right?

    Yes, WinAmp is still around: the audio player of choice for the Napster generation. You know, folks who are in their 40s now and are starting to get middle-aged presbyopia. If they remove their new reading glasses, it might make some of the many skins in the WinAmp Skin Museum look rather better.

    At least the napster generation understood that digital copies is not stealing. They understand the concept of a copy.

    Winamp is a prime example of all the right people making nerd-ass decisions and then getting utterly strangled by a corporate master which Does Not Get It.

    They worked on audio and video streaming, and the dolts who bought them took a long damn time to figure out that might be used for illicit purposes.

    Then they published Gnutella and WASTE as filesharing protocols and even those idiots realized what they’d be used for.
