Copyright happens as soon as you make the thing. There is no legal process involved.
I know, but if it’s not formalized, someone might steal it and file the copyright formally themselves. It can be extraordinarily difficult to prove ownership if someone can beat you to the punch with the copyright. Then there’s the hassle of fighting it even if you can prove it.
So like I said… I hope he copyrighted it because it’s fucking gold.
