Jon Stewart Extends ‘Daily Show’ Run Through 2025

He'll continue to host the Comedy Central show once a week and serve as an executive producer.

Comedy Central announced Monday that Stewart has signed an extension that will keep him as a once-a-week host and full-time executive producer of The Daily Show through December 2025. The news comes just over nine months after Stewart made a deal to return to the show he hosted from 1998-2015.

That initial deal had Stewart hosting the show once a week (usually Monday nights) through the presidential election. With Election Day looming (and Stewart set to host a live, hour-long special on Nov. 5), the extension will keep Stewart on The Daily Show through the first year of the next president’s term.

    That’s excellent news.

    Jon gets his once a week chance to do whatever he wants. It’s clear he has a lot more freedom than he did while on Apple.

    Plus it was obvious that Jon left because he wanted the freedom to try new things. He got to do that, and he still has the freedom to do more if he likes. Plus Dec 2025 is a short contract, so he can head off into the world if he finds something that takes more time.

    It’s a little bit of a bummer for the existing correspondents, all of whom are ready to take over, and is probably why Roywood Jr left, but another year to get comfy with the role maybe isn’t the worst thing.
