    Explanation: In the century after Islam was established, the Iberian peninsula was almost entirely conquered by Muslim forces. There were some hardy mountain folk up north who the Muslim rulers of Al-Andalus figured it wasn’t worth the trouble of trudging up the rocks and beating down, but they’ll never amount to anything, so it’ll all be fine in the end!

      We see the elevation on the map and most of what’s shown as not controlled by Al-Andalus within the Iberia peninsula look to be low elevation.
