The people who keep posting this have obviously never seen Alien.

I get the sentiment, but Ripley has a daughter.
And its not her cat. It’s the ship’s cat.
That’s how cats always come into your life. You just look down one day and there they are!
Ripley has a daughter though.

Not newt, she has an actual daughter. Amanda. Ripley spends so much time lost and in cryo sleep that her daughter lives an entire life and dies two years before Ripley gets back. In Aliens Newt serves as a surrogate for Ripley’s daughter and the manifestation of her guilt for missing her entire life.
