You were able to pick up the signal from a NOAA satellite as it was transmitting and got this picture? That’s so cool!
Yes on APT (137MHz frequency) the procedure is simple. You only need an SDR (Software Defined Radio), an antenna and a computer to do the recording and processing. For the SDR and antenna, I bought the RTL-SDR kit from eBay for around 50€.

I am trying to build an L-Band (1.7GHz frequency) setup now, so that I can get pictures at higher resolution. Though the materials required for this are more expensive and the procedure more involved.
