I think most people say that it’s not because it’s popular to do so. The series has some genuinely funny bits.

      What’s the spin off?

Also the money is not proof of funny, you could make that off with the drama and romance series too.

But the quotes are amazing. PIVOT! PIVOT!

Definitely successful, but it’s popular for people to say that they think it’s not funny, which is what I was getting at.

Tell me you’re way too young to have watched it when it first aired… without telling me you’re way too young to have watched it when it first aired.

Eh. It was shit then, and it’s only gotten shittier since (see: cash grab antics, laugh track BS, etc. above), but you go on thinking that a “popular” opinion is popular because it is, and not because it’s the rational, self-respecting opinion that many simply default to and never apply further attention to the subject again. 🤷🏽‍♂️

It is funny, especially the earlier seasons. It’s just popular to hate on it because so many people like it.

I will admit, though, that some of the later content was pretty rough. It all felt pretty forced.

This post is why this community exists. I salute your bravery.

There are some genuinely funny bits, but it’s been so long since I’ve watched it, I can only think of a few off the cuff.

There’s a youtube video out there where someone took some random scenes and removed the laugh track to “prove” it’s not funny. The problem with that is the pacing for the dialog is accounting for the laughs, so there’s a lot of awkward pauses that you normally don’t notice.

Yep. The timing just doesn’t work without the laugh track since they’ve taken it into consideration during production. If they removed the laugh track and the pauses, the jokes would land as they were supposed to.

I like how every few years, the consensus on whether Friends or Seinfeld was funny flip-flops. When I was in high school? Nobody thought they were funny. In my 20’s, everyone thought they were. Now they’re back to not being funny. In 2030 they’ll be funny again.

I’m an odd one out and watched all through Seinfeld during COVID and loved every minute of it. But I also get why people who don’t like it feel that way.

You should try watching some clips where they strip the laugh track out. Those are pretty good.

I think friends has comfort status. It’s one of those shows people binge in the background like the office and parks and rec. I had a roommate who always had friends on while he played wow. I probably saw him hit season 1 four times.

Every time I got exposed to Caillou, while changing channels back in the day, i died a little bit inside.

I mean, a whole team worked on that, it was greenlit and aired. Wtf?

I put big bang theory on in the background while I clean my apartment. Its just background noise that I don’t have to pay attention to, or think about.

I will say though, that everyone treats sheldon as the bad guy. He’s not. He clearly has a mental disorder. I don’t know which one. Maybe autism? But he clearly likes routine, firmiliar environments and change scares him. He doesn’t want to let you into his life, but once you’re in, he does genuinely care about you. Although he does have some problematic views on women.

Leonard is the asshole. He KNOWS sheldons personality, he KNOWS there’s a good person inside, under a layer of mental disorder, but he still treats situations as if sheldon is a problem.

Early seasons Howard is also an asshole. And often times a racist asshole. Even the actor agreed at some panel. The mellowed him out a bit after he hooked up with Bernadette.

And Raj is clearly either gay or bi…and they never address it ever. They make fun of him for not being a manly man, but he’s clearly mostly gay.

The character I like the most is Zach. He’s just this side character, and he’s supposed to be super dumb, but he’s loyal as hell. He goes on the roof to watch the lazor bounce off the moon. He doesn’t understand it, but he’s excited to do it. And he dresses up as superman and even offers to beat up 5 guys with possible guns, but the group sees that as a bad idea. Still though, he was ready to defend them. I’d rather be friends with Zach than Lenard.

I liked the early stuff quite a lot, but it definitely jumped the shark eventually imo. Thought it was supremely unfunny after that and I swiflty dropped the series.
