    I find it quite simple. Voters are economic left/progressive and social right/conservative. Center left parties are economic center and social left. The trend is similar in all western countries. And it’s a bad match.

      There’s only one economic platform the US is allowed to have, but seemingly unlimited social platforms. The ownership class doesn’t care about social issues as long as it doesn’t affect their bank accounts so we’re free to have variety there. So we’re stuck with two parties that barely differ on economic platforms and focus all their differences on social issues. Since the Dems aren’t allowed to make needed economic changes they “have” to try to compete in the social realm. Let’s see how far right they move in that respect now…
