If he had stuck to what he had been talking about before his first term of being a single term president, maybe threw some shade about getting some young blood in there, and had a actual primary, whoever won that would have beaten Trump. As always though, old assholes hubris fucks us all.
Yeah absolutely right. Biden will now just be remembered as the guy who was president in the gap during the Trump story.
Also it is not just old man hubris, it’s also a classic example of people at the top of the party acting in their own interests rather than the party’s. Bidens appointees and staff had a vested interest in him staying on as a new leader would pick other people. And then they had a vested interest in appointing Harris and running her campaign as a continuation of his, trying to keep themselves in power.
The whole thing was a shit show at the top of the democratic party. The irony is them saying trump is a threat to democracy when they did everything possible to prevent a democratic process in their own party.
Uh, most Democrats or at least Democrat-leaning voters who stayed home did so because of the America’s involvement in genocide, and the fact that living conditions for the average joe haven’t really changed in the last 4 years. Wall Street isn’t the barometer for success of the economy, Main Street is.
Oh living conditions have changed, they just have gotten much worse or at best stagnated.
I stayed home because neither candidate represented the interests of the working class.
Yeah but that just means you can be safely ignored.
The Democrats don’t bother to win voters that don’t show up. 40% didn’t vote. They aren’t going to read your lack of vote as “I ain’t voting because I hate y’all”. ALL statistics are based around voters. Who showed up are more likely to show up again.
I’m not saying you should’ve voted Kamala because she was the lesser of two evils, far from it. I’m just saying that if you want the message to be received, you need to be petty. Use the write in space and write “fuck you Kamala” If you lack a write in space, just don’t fill out the presidency. It’s recorded.
If they receive 6% less voters, it’s ignored. You can only estimate that. if 6% of ballots just… ignored the presidency. That’s an eye popping statistic.
Ignoring us is what results in Trump presidencies.
I mean… yes? But also if you had showed up and flipped the finger, then all the ground you stand on would be rock solid. “You ignored me and this vote I am slipping into the ballot box could’ve been yours, but nope, now it goes to Micky mouse. Too bad, so sad.”
You are now automatically grouped with cheeto finger guys sitting in their underwear playing league to reach iron 2 because they just don’t care. What data can I wave to say you aren’t in that category?
Literally all of our bureaucracy is built on data. You’ve provided no proof that you are disenfranchised. A protest vote of none takes less time than a protest, and leaves more data.
Not really. You’re just in the camp of “get out and vote no matter what.”
If they “stayed home” then they shouldn’t be called “voters.”
Agreed. Staying at home is always read as “I don’t care” It’s the #1 excuse of “we need to win over right wing voters because they vote” argument.
If you’re truly that disenfranchised, then show up and write none. If you can’t write in, then write NONE across the ballot and turn it in. it’s a defaced ballot and it’s recorded. Make it clear, show up and provide the middle finger so there’s no room for doubt. This is exactly the moment you would’ve voted for your candidate if you had one.
I have a very hard time believing he would have won.
I don’t think the Dems’ chances would have been better if Biden had stayed in the race. I think Biden won in 2020 because of COVID and BLM - and enough people didn’t want Donvict leading the country through those issues that there was a surge of Dem votes. Come 2024 there wasn’t that same anti-Donvict motivation required to beat him in the absence of a Democratic candidate who works for the people rather than the Democratic establishment. Also, the corporate media started kissing the ring and basically declared Donvict the winner after the first debate
He probably would have won. I feel most of the backlash because of the debate was a manufactured snowball effect.
It’s so easy for right-wingers to say, “I was going to vote for Biden, but not after that debate!” when they were going to vote for Trump all along.
I unfortunately don’t think most left-wingers are autonomous enough to recognize this kind of behavior.
Pivoting to Kamala Harris of all people was perhaps the worst decision they could’ve made, and shows how out of touch the democratic establishment is with the working class.
Polls showed Biden was well behind Trump. Harris closed the gap and still lost. It is delusional to think a diminished figure like Biden could have closed the gap.
The reality is Biden was not fit for office and should haves stepped down as candidate in 2023 so the party could run an actual primary and fresh campaign.
Instead the ego and hubris of one old man and his hangers on has gifted the election to trump.
It’s worth noting 1/3 of thee electorate didn’t vote and that in the end 150,000 votes would have swung the electoral college. The fight was to win over just some of that 1/3 and get them to vote - it is not about republicans and never has been.
Pivoting to Harris was the second worst decision they could have made. Sticking with Biden would have been the worst. His own polls showed him losing by even more than Harris did. You’re dreaming.
If you considered voting for Biden for more than a few minutes, you’re not left wing.
Who would you have voted for instead?
I voted for stein since there wasn’t a centrist or left wing option available among the two main parties, and PSL wasn’t on my states ballot.
If they put up a candidate that acknowledged a tiny bit of Biden’s failures and deeply unpopular policies, id have voted for them.
