Two years in a row of 1.5c depending on how you measure it, and we’re increasing emissions.

Anyone without kids and with any kind of empathy shouldn’t have kids at this point, anyone with kids should starting training them in self defense, water purification, and how to cook human meat.

I honestly think we aren’t far from soup thrown at paintings being considered a relatively moderate protest, things are only getting more desperate

I honestly would prefer much more radical demonstrations to throwing soup at paintings. Obviously I would never advocate violence or breaking the law online, but theoretically speaking, no one with any sense minds if a CEO is damaged for their shitheaddery, whereas historical paintings are innocent bystanders.

Even many people who aren’t outright climate change deniers don’t understand the seriousness of the situation, possibly in part because they’ve been trained (largely by religion) to see things in apocalyptic terms. If it’s a binary switch, if it’s “The world will be destroyed or no”, any perception that we’re ‘over the line’ will lead to people tuning out.

The reality, on the other hand, is that life for humankind on planet earth will go on… at the cost of billions of lives, worldwide political instability, and literal quadrillions of dollars of economic loss.

Each reduction we make now saves tens or hundreds of thousands of lives, improves the standard of living of hundreds-of-thousands more, prevents a war, saves billions of dollars. I don’t know how we get people to start thinking in terms of “How do I improve our situation going forward?” instead of “We die or we don’t”, but I suspect it would be helpful.

Too late. I gave up hope years ago. Now I just focus on me.

What’s for dinner tonight? Let’s go with beef! Might as well enjoy what’s left of my life before you all take it away from me.

Well, that surely makes everything better…

Climate catastrophe isn’t a binary switch. Everything we do now still has an effect - at least for all the people living in the next 50-100 years

im like the inverse you. I focus on me but trying to have the least blame for the situation as possible. Economics win out and I have limitations. So for me the dinner is like ham or turkey.
