Summary

Donald Trump criticized former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy for extending the debt ceiling to June 2025, calling it “one of the dumbest political decisions” in years.

Trump argued the move shifted responsibility for the debt ceiling crisis from the Biden administration to Republicans, blaming it for McCarthy’s loss of the Speakership.

Trump claimed the extension gained Republicans nothing and warned Democrats might exploit the issue to harm the GOP, likening the potential fallout to the 1929 Great Depression.

Trump urged immediate action to shift blame back to Democrats.

Democrats have never ever even threatened to use the debt ceiling to shut down the government. It’s a strategy that only works for Republicans because they’re fine with government not working and poor people not getting their social security checks. If Democrats did it, it would backfire on them. Besides, Republicans have a trifecta, the only way the government shuts down is if they can’t agree amongst themselves.
