Last time this happened to a Chinese game I owned, it’s because their publisher was removed off steam for fake reviews or something. The devs had to get a new publisher and issued owners of the game new keys to the game since they had to make a new store page.
This sounds very plausible to me.

Another post above said they may have been faking reviews, if so, they would almost certainly play dumb when caught.
If that other post is talking about the game I think they are, the people faking reviews were the publishing house, not the devs. The devs had been just as blindsided in that incident.
The publishers of that game (and many other games they published) allegedly had a private group where they gave out free steam keys and required the redeemers to give bogus positive reviews in exchange for the free games. Which is a shame because the game was actually super fun and ran great.
Maybe we’ll find out more details later but we don’t know anything for sure yet. Publishers doing shady stuff wouldn’t surprise me one bit, but I’ve heard of devs doing sketchy stuff too.
