The guidelines for a first offense would give him fines and probation, but the judge has indicated he’s inclined to give him nothing.

The judge would be entirely within the margins to give Trump actual jail time, though.

The judge could try to give him jail time, but we all know that some appeals court would throw it out, and there’s a risk that they might also throw out the verdict with it. So it’s safer to go with an empty sentence.

Nah, see this is the attitude that allows him to continue doing whatever he wants. Force the appeals court to make up some bullshit and further expose their corruption. Judges have discretion in sentencing, and appeals need to be based on something more than “that’s not fair.”
