The world’s richest man looks to move Canada to the right as the beleaguered prime minister prepares to depart

The decision by the Canadian prime minister, Justin Trudeau, this week to resign as head of the Liberal party has set in motion a leadership race against the backdrop of a looming general election, which will be held amid political turmoil triggered by Donald Trump’s “America first” economic nationalism. It has also given Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, an opportunity to inject himself into yet another country’s political turmoil.

Since Trudeau’s resignation on Monday, Musk has posted repeatedly about Canadian politics on X – the platform formerly known as Twitter he bought in 2022 for $44bn. He has praised clips of Pierre Poilievre, the leader of Canada’s Conservative party, while relishing in Trudeau’s downfall and engaging with rightwing Canadian influencers.

“Girl, you’re not the governor (sic) of Canada anymore, so doesn’t matter what you say,” Musk tweeted in response in the middle of the night on Tuesday.

      Yes, I didn’t say you couldn’t.

      I said if you apply for a US citizenship, they make you renounce your other citizenships.

      In Muskrats case that would be SA and Canada.

          The US might not require that. The country you are joining might not have the same rules.

          Edit: Also that is for becoming a citizen of a different country than the US. Which really doesn’t contradict my statement.

                    Yes, it does. You don’t lose other citizenships when you gain US citizenship.

                    You keep asserting otherwise, how about you back that claim up with proof?

              Edit:Ted cruz also has a canadian and american parent.

                In order to hold office you have to have citizenship. Cruz held office while (unknowingly) having dual citizenship … until he found out and renounced his Canadian citizenship.

                So you are demonstrably incorrect.

                    If you become a naturalized citizen they make you renounce other citizenships.

                    As many of us have said this is demonstrably incorrect. America does NOT force anyone to give up a foreign citizenship to gain US citizenship.
