Summary
The FBI’s background check on Pete Hegseth, Trump’s defense secretary nominee, omitted interviews with his ex-wives and a woman who accused him of sexual assault in 2017, despite standard protocol.
Hegseth claims the encounter was consensual, and no charges were filed, though he settled the case in 2023.
Senate Democrats criticized the background check’s thoroughness and raised concerns over Hegseth’s qualifications, citing allegations of financial mismanagement, sexual impropriety, and alcohol issues.
It is obvious that they just are trying to avoid more “Well, this person is clearly compromised but we have to give them a clearance anyway”
That said: The point of the background investigation is to identify things that people can be compromised by. So… if it is public knowledge and they already escaped any and all consequences… Kind of a spirit, if not letter, of the law thing.
This is a free for all. Grab your cash while it’s hot. And they don’t believe they could be compromised. If being compromised would even faze any of them.
It’s going to be lots of turn over, just like last time.
I don’t usually do this, but it was also a light bulb for me as well: it’s “faze” and not “phase”.
No, thank you. That’s a legit correction.
