Three lawyers of the late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny were sentenced to prison terms ranging from 3.5 to 5.5 years for belonging to an extremist organization.

The lawyers, arrested in October 2023, were added to an official list of “terrorists and extremists” the following month.

The case is seen as a way to increase pressure on the opposition and discourage defense lawyers from taking on political cases.
