Kowloon Walled City is really fascinating in the most dystopian way. It’s such a shame that there is no good, high quality footage really documenting the place.

And it’s mind blowing to me that it was originally built in the 1840s. I would have guessed 1940s or 1950s. But no. Crazy. And for the longest time, I thought that it was just housing. But no, as you see in this video, it really was like its own city, but trapped inside of these dark, dank, crowded buildings.

I went looking for some footage of Kowloon a few months ago and I couldn’t find anything. I’m glad she recorded this while she could.

I watched the Jackie Chan movie Crime Story to get a glimpse, and they had some amazing scenes, but everyone had already moved out. It did have some crazy cool action scenes though with some long cuts.
