As we’ve settled in here, it feels we’ve lost much of that and many have fallen back to those old habits of just letting opinions fly at each other, and we’ve got more arguing than cooperation.
I mean, that part is totally normal IME, but it also highlights how most users tend to think of a free service as just something to be taken advantage of, which admittedly makes a certain sense… up until a point.
IMO the biggest thing reddit-to-lemmy users missed is that they failed to conceive that content-creation is not necessarily automatic, and that it was pretty-much up to them to ‘do their part.’ Again, not all that surprising in the age of community BBS’s to social media, but I guess like you, I’d hoped that there’d be more of a communal awareness & effort against the dangers of big business capturing social media, as it’s done.
If we could approach more threads calmly like this, I’d be so much happier.
Generally I’m in agreement, but I must confess a certain appreciation for a good mix-it-up argument, gloves-off (but still with a politness), hopefully learning where and how I might have been wrong. Seriously, I think it’s because we naked apes tend to be stung so hard by being shown exactly where we’re wrong, that such can actually be a great teaching tool, much more effective than various other methods, par example.
Altho yeah… I’m not sure if such an approach is best for the whole lot of us advanced monkeys. 😂
…you have a more youthful character to me!
It would take a minute to properly explain my rando character, but if it makes sense, I have CFS/ME, which caused me to grow up as if was a refugee from the moon. Simply put-- much of my life has involved living in major frustration, waving goodbye to the things my colleagues and friends were able to dabble in, such as specialised career-learning, pursuing such a career all my working life, being able to keep up with a romantic partner, starting a family, and enjoying the fruits of a well-lived life. So in the face of all that, I felt like I had to come up with a variety of wild improvisation in order to… find my niche, I guess. (again, long complicated story)
That said, I sincerely apologise if my sometimes wild, youthful remarks hurt you or others. Despite the above, I am certainly not here to abuse or be mean towards others if I can help it. Indeed, maintaining awareness of my dumbass self is pretty much in my top-three of self-awareness, haha.
My real life is about 50/50 good and bad now, so I’ve been trying to jump between worlds" between people here and IRL, but it’s become a bit more challenging for me recently.
Damn, sorry to hear that, matey. :S
So far I’ve appreciated messaging with you, altho I can be (naturally) slow to respond at times, given my condition. Still, feel free…!
Ooh ooh, and I finally got around to posting that ‘mystery owl’ post I’d mentioned last week. ^^
I did expect a bit more content when I first came here. Most posts I feel had like 3 comments at best. It’s come a long way, and now I really can get a full day’s worth if what I need from here alone. It’s not as friendly as it was, but I think it still has a better ratio of positivity compared to Reddit. There feels like a good amount of people now that I don’t recognize all the regular commenters names anymore too, so it feels like participation is getting better as far as comments go anyway.
I’ve gotten over a decent bit of my anxiety being a poster by now, but I grew up always feeling like I was useless crap, so I always feel people are mad at me and things I do aren’t good enough, so it’s taken a bit, and things I duct expect can still get me anxious. I try to remain peaceful, so I’m not used to people just coming at me. I especially don’t expect it here where I’m just trying to be the Bob Ross of Owls or something. 😀
I wonder if my old friend’s mom had something like CFS/ME. I knew him for like ten years and while we weren’t at his place much, I think I only saw his mom out of bed twice. She looked normal and all, but she was just always resting. He had some weird thing too where he would just curb through all his energy really quickly and have to eat pretty often despite being really skinny.
I’m glad you still find ways to enjoy yourself. I’m certainly much more familiar with you after this thread now, so I shouldn’t be caught off guard now! I’ve been in a better mood this week, but it’s more due to some of my frustrations turning more to the absurd at this point. A lot this week involves my new work safety improvements. They messed up my whole work area, it’s been over a year they’ve been remodeling to make it safer, and I’ve found everything they put in was done wrong, and most everything is more dangerous than it was before.
I work with compressed and liquified gases, so there is a real danger of suffocation, and they took me from an open space to a mostly enclosed one with “safety features.” Only most of their tech doesn’t seem to work, and more importantly, I’m finding most of it fails to an on state and doesn’t turn off my equipment should an emergency happen.
I discovered this during a false alarm, and none of the responding security or safety people had any idea how the system was supposed to work. So I’ve been making a stink about that.
I like your kakapo! I’m sad we don’t have many land birds anymore. They’re all so cool!
