Ah, see I’d seen that, but (before I realised the musk salute connection) I thought a roman hug was a reference to its own thing (like maybe getting stabbed in the back?), rather than just a tongue in cheek reference to the roman salute.
I didn’t see anybody claiming that, and I don’t get why that would be a defense. A roman salute is a fascist symbol that - at least in Italy - is considered identical to the nazi one. They are basically synonyms, so much so that Italian articles reporting on this fact used the term “roman salute” to describe Musk’s gesture.
Lots of the far right saying he was giving a “roman salute”. All of it is the defenses for Musk applied to Luigi Mangione.
