Hello there!

First of all, I hope that I picked the right subreddit for my questions. I am kind of new to the PC theme.

I recently built my first PC, and for the GPU, I chose the RTX 4080S (MSI Ventus edition). My full specs, if that matters, are Ryzen 9700X and 32 GB DDR4 6400 RAM.

To test this thing out, I’ve been running some stress tests and playing some games. So far, several interesting questions have come up.

  • While testing the GPU, I used Furmark 2 (x64) at 1080p. When running fullscreen benchmarks, most of the time it showed me an average of 280 FPS (the normal number of FPS, according to the FurMark website, is 333 - https://www.geeks3d.com/20250113/furmark-2-benchmark-charts-for-p1080-scores/). I didn’t understand how my GPU could produce such low numbers while others got better results. A bit later, I ran the 1080p benchmark again, and at one point during the benchmarking, I alt-tabbed. To my surprise, in a borderless mode, FurMark hit 331 FPS at the end of the benchmark. I did that again and came to the same result. The question is: how is this even possible, and why?
  • While I was looking at the graphs in benchmarking fullscreen, the GPU kept resetting its clocks, even though the temperatures were fine. The TDP was coming close to the maximum, then resetting, and then the clocks were dropping. BUT, while running borderless such things not happening. Again, what is going on and why?
  • For additional info, while looking for others with this GPU playing games, I’ve seen better average FPS results in most titles (while running at 1080p). For example, in Helldivers 2 at 1080p on ultra, I’ve been hitting 135 FPS, while others are pushing 150+. Can it be somehow connected with previous questions about FurMark and running it borderless?

I would appreciate any help in answering these questions, and thank you very much in advance!
