That same “large portion of Americans” saw MLK’s cause as the problem. They disagreed with his methods because they disagreed with his cause. Critics of MLK wanted to treat him as a subordinate, an inferior. They did not want him to be a peer.
JSO is not being criticized for their cause. Criticism of JSO is for the inept and counterproductive actions they are taking in support of their cause.
MLK targeted racists - the perpetrators - not the general public. JSO is targeting the general public - the victims - not the oil companies.
They are by the law courts with sentences like these.
