We have some more details for you on the nationwide immigration crackdown which resulted in the arrest of 956 people.
It is the most since Donald Trump returned to power, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
A number of federal agencies with newly expanded detention powers were involved in the raids in a number of cities including Chicago, Newark, New Jersey, and Miami.
Since taking office, Trump has carried out 21 executive actions to overhaul the US immigration system.
An unnamed man told CBS News, external, the BBC’s US news partner, that ICE took his wife during on the Miami raids this weekend.
“It’s despicable what they’re doing right now,” he told CBS. “It’s very embarrassing.”
He said his wife was in the process of getting citizenship when ICE arrived: “They just came and they snatched her.”
Last week, Newark Mayor Ras Barka said undocumented residents and citizens - including one military veteran - were detained without a warrant during an ICE raid of a local business.

It effects those 1000 people and they might not have even come from that country. Our country is depopulating because our birth rates are so low. We’re just going to be Disneyland for the rich and most of us just their servants.

I was attempting to make light of the ridiculousness of the whole plan but I didn’t think about the fact that regardless of the feasibility of achieving their goal, any number of people they scoop up in this will have their lives completely destroyed in a wave of terror. I can’t imagine what these poor people must be going through.

At 1,000 per day, that’s not even going to be a dent. And, how many of those arrests are just citizens who they nabbed because they were brown? Glad we are focusing on the things that matter 🙄

This is fucked. The entire thing is horrible, but come on, if someone is in the process of becoming a citizen they should absolutely be ok. It takes years to go through that process.
Did ICE just hire a bunch of people in 7 days, or were these the same people managed by Biden’s ICE director appointment?

But it’s just starting really. You can see some stories online already, or if you have friends or family that works for one of these agencies, they will tell you that a lot of investigations are being put on hold while they wait for commands to pivot to immigration.

So the same employees that were previously managed by the person Biden picked as ICE Director. Got it.

I’m not a conspiracy theorist or anything, but if it came out that some of these accounts were intentionally designed to attempt to rile people up and make them scared and angry by some three-letter agency, I would believe it.
Judging by the schedules they keep, I’m pretty sure it’s people outside the US. I really don’t know who it is though, but they’re pretty good ones. Every now and then, we get the really good ones. I don’t know why a little place like this community on Lemmy would draw that caliber, but it is what it is.
