Athletics Australia is rebranding to “Australian Athletics” — a move that might appear subtle to most people but which the sports federation said would provide a “bold, new identity” to allow it to capitalise on a golden era ahead.

      Fascinating, the term athletics refers to sports in general in the US. Track and Field is indeed the categorization I am familiar with.

        The French use “fais du sport”, or “doing sport” when referring to exercising.

        They’re still called athletes I guess? but for some reason we* nonetheless never (?) use “athletics” to mean “all sports”. I’d never really thought about how it’s a bit strange until this thread!

        * at least here - can’t speak definitively for everybody
