Huh. So the fall of the dictatorship (The Somoza) led to the imprisonment of sex workers. Sex workers were uplifted and supported as workers during the dictatorship and the liberals (Sandanistas) targeted them as symbols of debauchery of the dictatorship. (societies are wild, man)

But in the same breath the state (the dictatorship) used sexual violence as a tool against Sandanistas.

During the Somoza dictatorship the public servant jobs were given to Somoza supporters. Including women. During a time when women weren’t really given jobs of that status to work. This created even more support for the dictatorship, initially. However, corruption ended up degrading the work available and the jobs to a point that the Somocista supporters began defecting to the Sandanista side. Took a while to happen, though.
