I skimmed the article, how else would I have explicitly mentioned Tesla Shanghai? Also what is stopping Tesla Germany to also produce whatever Model? So this rattling by Tesla is just about not no longer be able to rely on cheap china labor.
Because the factory produces an entirely different model? Like, the machines don’t manufacture the parts for the model they are importing from China? It’s the same for every car manufacturer, they set up factories to produce specific cars.
It’s certainly true that they’re profitting off of the cheaper labor. I imagine their factory in Germany only has so much capacity and is tooled for manufacture of specific models. The original strategy with the resources they had lead them to break down their global manufacturing strategy in this way; but that’s not to say they CANNOT do it differently, it just made fiscal sense due to probably a thousand different factors.
So I imagine that yes, they COULD move operations to the EU. But it’s probably cheaper to fight legal battles and continue to operate this way for years while they’re resolved in the courts.
To me every Nazimobil is just a way to circumvent § 111 (“Public incitement to commit offences”) on lemmy to not get banned, thanks to @[email protected]
Uh dafuq?
Why does Tesla sues for tarrifs on china ev imports when they have a factory in the heart of Europe? Where is the sense in that?
Does Tesla Shanghai produce more than Tesla Germany?
“The company currently exports Model 3 vehicles from Shanghai to the EU, while it produces the Model Y in Berlin.”
It’s right there in the article if anyone would care to read it.
To me every Tesla electric car is a Tesla electric car. So apologies for my car ignorance.
It wasn’t your “car” ignorance that was the issue, it was your “failed to read the article before commenting” ignorance that was in question.

He can probably build them cheaper in China.
Not all of the factories produce all of the models. This is true for basically all vehicle manufacturers.
Probably some exceptions for smaller and new EV companies that only have 1-2 models.
