I was always disappointed that the empire seemed to be ideologically nothing more elaborate than right wing authoritarianism. No ideology, no myths, no propaganda that isn’t a satire of itself. 40k’s human empire is pretty simple too, but at least they have lore and iconography for the underlying RWA tendencies.
They don’t even explain what exactly empire did that started rebellion, seemingly every aspect of republic was preserved, even senate was working until the 4th episode, like 20 years after empire was formed.
