Civil rights groups have announced a boycott of Target stores across the U.S. beginning on February 1, after the retail giant said it would end diversity, equity and inclusion, or DEI, initiatives aimed at promoting and hiring more women and people from protected minority groups. Target is also ending its goal of sourcing products from businesses owned by people of color, women, LGBTQ+ people, veterans and people with disabilities. Target follows other major U.S. corporations, like Walmart and McDonald’s, that have recently shut down DEI initiatives that are under attack from President Trump and his allies.
Imagine spending years positioning yourself as walmart for bougie white women and then just stopping. Like… what did they expect?
We never go to Walmart because of their politics. Then Target pulls this and it’s not the first time either. They caved on the pride stuff then the LGBT community got pissed. Not sure why they did it. Did they think trumpy grumpies were going to go there over Walmart? They should of embraced the boycott and ran as a company that prides itself against haters but I’m not in business so what do I know
Well, I drive fifteen minutes out of my way to use target instead of Walmart. Now I’m going to just try to find it in a smaller local store. I know Americans are too lazy for a boycott to have a measured effect, but I will do my part.
Better yet, buy secondhand, reduce consumption, and buy from farmers markets.
