I can see so many issues with this without even putting much thought into it…
For instance… if your carbon handlebars crack, there goes your navigation system, too. And when your nav system stops working because someone decided to smash the screens, you’re SOL because you can’t mount regular accessories to a bar like that. And when your bike fitter tells you that you need wider/narrower/longer bars, oh well!
This looks sleek, but you lose repairability, upgradability, and the reliability of having separate, removable “gadgets”.
I think this kind of stuff is made for people who own a 20k road bike that they never let it leave their sight, so other than the nav stop working, it’s really a non-issue. The computer seems to be able to pop right off too. The biggest issue then, it’s the limited production, which kinda mean having the thing fix gonna take forever, and the firmware maintenance and update is kinda on the low quality side.
I’m willing to bet that most people who could entertain riding a 20k bike are professionals who get sponsorships, and they have to use the gear provided by the sponsors.
Even if you had a few rich people who have an expensive bike just because, is the market that big to sustain hardware like this? I wouldn’t count on having warranty or software support for more than a year or two. 😵
Yeah, that will be the issue for stuff like this. Once the well run dry and firmware update stop, it’s a junk. But i guess they might make it work, since one bike manufacturer already planned to fit theirs with it, and also they fund this venture with OnlyFans money. You know that sort of well don’t run dry for the near future.
This was my first thought lol, “It looks like it could be cool, right up until something goes wrong, then it just becomes an expensive pain in the ass!”
I think I’m gonna stick to an attachable bike computer in this case. The downsides are just too big for this product, with the upsides being too small.
Because we need that…
