    “Gravel” bikes are just what happened when people started putting touring tires on road bikes. Or rather when they figured out that they could swap wheels on one frame, and then one day never put the roadie wheels back on.

    I wonder who these articles for.

    I personally opted for a “gravel bike” because it has very similar geometry as the equivalent road bike, but tweaked for comfort and stability, especially on endurance rides. It also uses a gear range that ordinary humans can make use of.

    And with support for wider tires, fenders, or bikepacking gear, it has advantages over road bikes without losing anything.

    I’m sure that other people have made the same type of purchase for the same reasons.

    The article lists the Cervelo Caledonia-5 as a “superb example of a modern all-road bike…” and “… the sort of bike Simon should have bought.”.

    OK? If Simon had an extra $15,000 for it, sure.

      Yeah, IDK, my main bike is just an old hardtail MTB. I’d love to have a newer, lighter gravel bike.
